Packing Tips For Your Next Trip
Packing can be stressful, whether it's for your entire family or just for yourself. It's a pain to try to fit everything you want in just one suitcase or to try and find something once you've packed it away, as your suitcase probably isn't very organized. Changing the way you pack can help you to be organized, can save you space in your suitcase, and may even make your clothing less wrinkled. See below for some helpful packing tips.
Utilize All Space
Use all space available in your suitcase, such as using your shoes to store your socks and underwear. Then place your shoes into a plastic bag and seal it tightly. Store your shoes at the bottom of your suitcase or in the front pocket of your suitcase. You can use vacuum bags to shrink items such as puffy jackets, coats, and other items that may take up quite a bit of space. Investing in packing cubes can also help you utilize all available space in your suitcase. The smaller cubes can be filled completely with clothing, shoes, and other items; then place the cubes into your suitcase.
Folding Methods
Roll Your Clothing. Roll up your clothes rather than folding them to help save space. You can roll them tightly, then press the pieces of clothing tightly in your suitcase to keep them from unrolling. Rolling them will help prevent wrinkles to your clothing that can happen when you fold them.
Fold Clothing Together. If you can't get into rolling your clothing, try folding your clothing together. Start with your larger items such as jackets, long-sleeved shirts or sweatshirts and lay them out flat. Then place smaller items on top such as pants. Fold the small items as flat as you can, then begin folding the larger items on the bottom around the smaller items, tucking everything in as you go along. Although this saves space, it may not prevent wrinkles.
File Cabinet Folding. To help you find your clothing easier, use the filing cabinet method. Stand your suitcase up and open it. Begin laying your folded clothing in the suitcase, starting at the bottom and working your way up to the top until the entire suitcase is full of your clothing. When the suitcase is laid down, you will be able to see all of your clothing, which makes it easier to find everything you need.
Keep Similar Items Together
Keep similar items together, such as shirts, pants, shorts and undergarments. This makes things easier for you when unpacking your items into drawers when you arrive at your hotel. You can also pack your items in outfits if this makes things easier on you. Pack the outfits in a large clear plastic bag so you can see everything in the bag. This is a good idea if you are travelling with kids.
Make A List
Make a packing list to use for you and your entire family. This helps ensure you will have everything you need when you leave for your vacation and when you leave to come back home. You'd hate to leave your child's favorite teddy bear behind. Keep the list with you when travelling.
When packing, be sure to use every bit of space you have. Fold and store your items depending on your needs in your suitcase, and create a packing list to help ensure you have everything you need. Keep these tips in mind next time you plan a vacation to someplace like The Breakers Hotel.
